Newcastle’s Flares holds charity Clubbercise event

Get your glow stick at the ready and take part in a Saturday night like no other as Clubbercise takes over Flares dance floor on May 13.

Radio Lollipop worker, Louise Sharp and fitness instructor, Melanie James are hosting a charity event like no other to raise money for the continued care, comfort and entertainment of children during their stay at the RVI.

The girls have hired out Flares nightclub, in Newcastle, on May 13 to host their Clubbercise charity event. The fitness dance class is done in the dark with glow sticks, disco lights and a UV light; while working out and having a dance to 90s classics and current day charts.

Louise Sharp, Radio Lollipop worker and host of the event, said: “Obviously its primary aim is to get fit, but I’ve found it’s great for not only the body, but also the mind. I’ve struggled with anxiety and depression all my adult life and that’s gone now thanks to Clubbercise and the friends I’ve made. It’s really so much more than a work out.

We decided to advertise the event as ‘Clubbercise to your Pubbercise’ as we plan to stick around in town for a few sociable drinks together afterwards as we’re largely about making friends. We’re also going to have photo opportunities with props, UV face paints and ‘squats for shots’, as every participant receives a free shot of Sourz after the event. We’re really hoping to make it a fun night.”

Clubbercise has helped raise money for many charities in the past including Luke’s Life Legacy, SANDS and many other charities which includes raising £380 for Bright Northumbria.

“We’ve booked flares because we wanted a venue which could accommodate up to around 75 people and because of its light up dance floor, UV lights and general vibe. We’ve already raised quite an amount in ticket sales and we’re hosting a raffle too. But we really want a big atmosphere so we really plan to push the event to make it a sell out,” added Sharp.

Doors will open at 6.15pm for everyone wanting to take part. Male or female, 18 or over, bring along some friends and join in the fun for a good cause, with tickets costing £10 in advance or £15 on the door with glow sticks being sold for £1.
