The ‘More than Music’ festival will take place at the Silksworth Cricket Club from July 14 to 16 and has already attracted over 200 people on its official Facebook page.
The event will include entertainment such as circus performers, retro gaming and of course the music itself. Over the weekend there will also be street food and craft beer available.
Chairman of the Cricket Club, Steve Lobban spoke highly of the event and how it would benefit the club going forward.
“Silksworth Cricket Club has been around for over 100 years, yet not many people in the local area are still aware there is a cricket club within their village,” he said.
“The festival will put the club on the map both locally and hopefully within the north-east area. We are looking to ensure the club is around for another 100 years by ensuring generations of people come to the club, use our facilities and ensure cricket is still played on the ground.”
As well as the event, Silksworth’s senior teams are always encouraging people in the area to go down and support when and where they can. The club bar is open on every match-day and there is always a friendly atmosphere.
Stuart Middlemiss, Club Secretary and player for over ten years, said: “The event will get people through the door and make people more aware of the work going on at the club. As well as this we will look to build relationships with local businesses as well as the Silksworth community.”
In recent years, the club have looked to recruit more junior players, who could one day be integrated into the senior teams, and Mr Middlemiss spoke about the importance of getting new players in at junior level.
“The event will hopefully attract more players at junior level, but also social members who come down and support the lads whenever a game is played,” he said.
Silksworth’s senior teams will start their new league and cup campaigns at the end of April, as well as the event being in July, make sure to go down and get a feel for the club and what it has to offer.
