11 People charged in Sunderland drugs operation

crime and police11 people have been charged in connection with a police investigation into drug dealing in Sunderland.

Last year police launched Operation Primus aimed at tackling drugs supply in the city and so far 16 people have been arrested.

On Wednesay, June 9, 10 men and one woman were charged as part of the investigation.

Chief Inspector Jerry Pearson said: “There is no doubt that drugs and drug dealing lead to other crimes and we are determined to disrupt the supply of drugs on to our streets.”

Those charged are:

  • Gordon Ellis, 56, of Fernville Street, Sunderland, has been charged with conspire to supply crack cocaine and will appear at Sunderland Magistrates Court on July 12
  • Carrie Ellis, 38, of Edwin Street, Sunderland, has been charged with conspire to supply crack cocaine. Also to appear at Sunderland Magistrates Court on July 12
  • Peter Stead, 33, of Leaholm Road in Hartlepool, has been charged with conspire to supply crack cocaine. Also to appear at Sunderland Magistrates Court on July 12
  • Tony Phillips, 36, of Rowan Avenue, Harraton, Washington, has been charged conspire to supply crack cocaine. He has also been charged with possessing amphetamine with intent to supply. Also to appear at Sunderland Magistrates Court on July 12
  • Lee Halcrow, 41, of Beach Road, in South Shields, has been charged with conspire to supply crack cocaine. Also to appear at Sunderland Magistrates Court on July 12
  • Nevile Watson, 36, of Tatham Street in Hendon, Sunderland, has been charged with conspire to supply heroin and will appear at Sunderland Magistrates Court on July 5.
  • David Todd, 46, of Upper Walworth Way, Sunderland, has been charged with conspire to supply heroin. Also due to appear at Sunderland Magistrates Court on July 5.
  • Michael Podd, 34, of Tower Road, Hendon, has been charged with conpsire to supply heroin. Also due to appear at Sunderland Magistrates Court on July 5.
  • Lee Angus, 32, of Eden Vale, Sunderland, has been charged with conspire to supply heroin. Also due to appear at Sunderland Magistrates Court on July 5.
  • Darren Fletcher, 30, of Thatham Street, has been charged with conspire to supply heroin. Also due to appear at Sunderland Magistrates Court on July 5.
  • Colin Smith, 29, of Tatham Street, Sunderland has been charged with supply heroin. Also due to appear at Sunderland Magistrates Court on July 5.

Of the arrests, four have been released with no further action and one has been released on policebail.
