A South Tyneside charity has received funding from Northumbria Police’s Charities Fund.
Apna Ghar, based in South Shields, provides services to women from BME communities across South Tyneside, offering advice and support to help minority ethnic women and girls develop confidence and be empowered to recognises their full potential while mainting their cultural identity.
The centre offers a range of training courses, interpretating support, outreach support, coffee monring, advice sessions, support for domestic abuse victims, information sessions and a girls youth group.
The charity applied to funding from the Northumbria Police Charities Fund to buy ten tablets. The new technology means staff can access information quickly when attending appointments in the community and members can use them when at the centre to complete online forms or search for jobs.
The youth group will also be able to use the tables to help with homework and assignmments.
Asia Rahman, Lead Development Officer, from Apna Ghar said: “We are thrilled with the tablets. This will enhance the work at the centre as well as provide further opportunities for our members and staff. I would like to thank Northumbria Police, PC Herbert and Ritchie Miles for their continued support.”
