Headway charity to hold 10-year anniversary at Stadium of Light

Headway is a UK charity that helps to improve the lives of those who suffer with brain injuries, providing support and information to the people affected, their families and their carers.

The 10-year anniversary and fundraiser event is being held at the Stadium of Light for those affected in the Wearside area.

Kim Hunter, Business and Community Development Officer at Headway Wearside said: “The main aims for Headway Wearside as an organisation are to continue to deliver services and support for adults with an acquired brain injury.”

“We provide a range of services including carer support, advice and signposting, health and wellness via the city space gym, cooking classes and relaxations sessions.”

The charity also work with other organisations such as Sunderland University, WEA and Recovery college to provide the classes that the members want to take part in.

Kim said: “Taking part helps to reduce social isolation, giving members something to focus on and to give them a goal in life. Perhaps they no longer work, have lost their circle of friends, have relationship or family breakdowns and experience mental ill health and memory difficulties, making everyday tasks difficult or impossible.”

The theme for the event is a casino night, alongside a raffle, fundraising games, a three-course meal and a DJ.

Money that is donated and raised from the event will help to continue their work, paying for accessible transport to activities if needed.

Tickets are available for £60. More information can be found here.
