Sunderland’s Student Union to clean up the streets of Sunderland

Sunderland’s Student Union has partnered with the Cleaner Communities in order to remove rubbish from Sunderland’s streets.

The event will take place on Wednesday, May 22, from 2pm to 4pm and its aim is to help Sunderland keep its streets cleaner. Sunderland’s Student Union is successfully collaborating with Cleaner Communities, which has already picked more than 36 tonnes of litter from the streets of Sunderland and its surrounding area’s and groundworks in Sunderland.

Rebecca Little, activities and opportunities officer of Sunderland’s Student Union, says: “The Students’ Union provides a wide range of volunteering opportunities for students to help students feel more connected to the city, by giving something back, and also a chance to meet new people and increase skills and experience outside of studying.”

All participants are asked to wear old clothes and functional shoes. All needed equipment will be provided to everyone for free.

Rebecca continues: “The opportunity is predominantly for students, however, if staff are interested, they can come along too. It is entirely free, as students will be volunteering their own time to help the community.”

The event will take place off campus and return transport will be provided to all attendees.
