Online entries still open for annual Penshaw Bowl

Online entries for the annual Penshaw Bowl, which takes place on Thursday April 18, are still open.

The Bowl, which takes place at Herrington Country Park between 12 and 4pm, includes a traditional free egg rolling contest for children aged nine and under in the Amphitheatre.

All the children taking part will receive a small treat provided by one of the event sponsors, Sainsbury’s Washington, who are also supplying a range of chocolate prizes including Easter eggs for the competition winners.

People can register for the event by clicking here.

The event also includes other free family activities, such as kite flying, petting animals, inflatable foot darts and an indoor market.

There will also be an Active Sunderland festival (entry charge £2 per person) with competitions in tug of war, swing ball and mini golf.

Leader of Sunderland City Council, Councillor Graeme Miller said: “The annual Penshaw Bowl is one of Sunderland’s most popular events, and we hope everyone will come along to help us celebrate this great Easter community tradition.

“I’d urge people to book online in advance as this is a popular event that saw more than 2000 children take part last year.

“We’ve got together with our community partners and event sponsors to provide a full programme of activities for all the family to enjoy in Herrington Country Park on April 18.”

A collection will also be taken for the Sun FM Easter Egg Appeal, which provides Easter eggs for families in need in partnership with the Salvation Army’s Sunderland Branch.

Sun FM Big Drive Home presenter Tim West said: “As Wearside’s local radio station, it is so important to give back to the community in any way we can. With the help of tens of thousands of Sun FM listeners here on Wearside, it is made much easier, and we thank them all in advance.”
