Recently reopened Kayll Road library, hosts an event to find a stem-cell match for Chloe Gray, who suffers from Diamond Blackfan anemia (DBA).
People from across Sunderland signed up at the library to show their support for the seven-year-old girl and her family, who are desperate to find a match for their daughter.
Chloe’s family were prepared at the event on March 28, with mouth swab kits, ready to take samples from people who registered to help.
Chloe’s mother, Francesca Bowser, said: “Chloe has relied on blood transfusions all of her life, and now she urgently needs a bone marrow transplant.
“It takes a couple of minutes and then you’re on the register and you could potentially be a match and save, not just -Chloe’s- life, but anyone else’s life.”
Chloe’s family were also present at the reopening day of the library, urging people to register for Chloe.
Karen Wood, community manager at Kayll Road library, said: “We’ve opened up the building for Chloe’s mam Francesca to come in and encourage people to get swabs to see if they can be a donor match.”
The library reopened its doors as an honesty library with a team of volunteers, after receiving funding for the running cost for a year.
