People in Sunderland have signed up to slide over a zip line from the roof of the Stadium of Light, over the River Wear to raise funds in aid of North East charity Foundation of Light.

The event, which is taking place on Sunday, October 8, has seen participants sliding on zip wire from the roof of the Stadium of Light at speeds of up to 25mph, landing on the other side of the River Wear at Liebherr.
Nicola Flood, 44, a participant from Sunderland said her experience on the zip wire: “It was fantastic. Amazing. Nerve racking. Jumping off the edge is the hardest bit to do. It was really good to do it and I highly recommend it to anybody.”
Proceeds from the event will support community education, health and skills programmes run by Black Cats’ charity Foundation of Light. Financially independent of the football club, the Foundation relies upon fundraising to be able to help 1000s of local people every week.

Foundation of Light Events Manager, Jemma Garrett, commented: “We have got over a 100 participants taking part in the Zip Wear. We have got people booked in all through the day and they’re raising money for the Foundation of Light. It’s all for a really good cause.”
