Sunderland University graduate Jordan North named new Radio 1 DJ

Sunderland University graduate Jordan North has been named as a new DJ on Radio 1.

The 2011 BA Media Production graduate who has worked for Rock FM, The Hits and Capital Manchester – as well as working on Spark FM throughout his time at Sunderland – will join new talent Abbie McCarthy, Katie Thistleton and Yasser presenting two shows each on Saturdays and Sundays throughout September.

Radio 1 Controller Ben Cooper said it was “a great way to celebrate Radio 1’s 50th birthday.

“You look at Jordan, he’s got that great northern wit, that ability to tell a great story, and he’s down to earth in talking about it.”

In the final year of his degree Jordan won Bauer Radio’s competition to find the next generation of talent and landed his own Sunday show on The Hits Radio. Jordan has never looked back.

Jordan first made media headlines in 2010, when blizzard conditions led to the cancellation of his Spark FM show – until Jordan came up with the novel idea of broadcasting his drivetime show  from his own bedroom.
