Mark Clattenburg to give talk at Seaham fundraiser ahead of move to Saudi Arabia

Seaham Coasts coach David Harding and compere Mal Robinson are to host a fundraising event for local youth football clubs, with a special guest appearance from Mark Clattenburg, one of Premier League’s top referees.

The event, which will be held at Sunderland Masonic on March 2nd, will hope to raise funds for equipment and clothing.

Harding revealed: “I was talking to Mal from Wear The People and told him I wanted to raise funds for my junior football team ( Seaham Coast Waves under 9’s .) He told me he had a contact for Mark. Once he had spoke to Mark I arranged a date and the venue.”

Speaking about the recent news that Clattenburg is to take up a new job in Saudi Arabia, Harding said: “I was a little bit worried yesterday but he confirmed today that this will be his last talk for quiet a while.”

“The room holds 110 so I am hoping to sell as close to that as possible. With the news that came in last week, I am getting more interest.”

Mal Robinson, who is also set to host the event, said Mark was always his number one choice for the fundraiser: “We agreed that Mark Clattenburg would be a great choice as he lives in Seaham and it would cater for football fans of all clubs.

“Mark was our number one choice and thankfully he said yes. I think his announcement has helped, we’ve had plenty of interest from local and national media.

“Nothing really shocks me in football these days. If there is a good deal financially, people will go, but I don’t blame them, it’s a short career, why not?”

If anyone is interested in the event it is only £15 per person which includes pie and peas supper, a raffle and auction on the night. Doors open at 7pm with the talk starting at 8pm.
