Age UK launch campaign to tackle loneliness in the elderly this Christmas

‘No one should have no one at Christmas’ is Age UK’s Christmas campaign as the festive date is just around the corner.

Christmas should be a happy time of year for everyone, but for some elderly people, it is a reminder that they are alone.

A third of older people living in the UK are affected by loneliness, and a predicted 280,000 people will spend Christmas Day alone. Recent statistics show that half of all older people (over 5 million) say that the TV is their main company. And almost one million (982,200) people aged over 60 feel lonelier at Christmas time.
