The switch on will take place in Keel Square, Sunderland City Centre, and is set to start at 5.00pm. The display is set to bring crowds of people in there hundreds, to the award winning square on Thursday.

Mayor of Sunderland Councillor Alan Emerson said: “Our cities festive lights will help to keep the city centre shining bright throughout the dark nights leading up to Christmas. Both the lights and the switch on event are part of Sunderland City Councils work to make our city as attractive as possible this Christmas to shopper and visitors, supporting local business and encouraging more people to use our city centre.”

The switch on of the lights will finish with a fireworks display celebrating the beginning of the annual countdown to Christmas.
