David Cameron is due to resign as Prime Minister in the wake of the UK’s decision to leave the European Union.

Cameron announced that he would step down by October.

He believes Britain can survive outside the European Union and “no immediate’ changes” will occur “in the way people can travel, in the way our goods can move or the way our services can be sold.”

In his speech, he said:

“I was absolutely clear [in the referendum] about my belief that Britain is stronger, sager and better off inside the European Union. And I made clear the referendum was about this and this alone, not the future of any single politician, including myself”

“But the British people have made a very clear decision to take a different path and as such I think the country requires fresh leadership to take it in this direction”.

UKIP Leader Nigel Farage repeatedly claimed 23th of June would go down in history as the “independence day”. He called on David Cameron to step down “immediately”.

And Lib Dem leader Tim Farron said David Cameron had “no choice” but to resign.

He said:

“David Cameron has become the latest Conservative leader to fall victim to his party’s obsession with Europe”.
