Man suffers slash wound during assault in South Tyneside

A 43-year-old man has suffered a slash wound to his face after he was assaulted in South Shields.

The assault happened at around 4.30pm on Saturday, May 28, at the junction of Stanhope Road and Alnwick Road in the town.

The man suffered a slash wound to his face and had to received hospital treatment for his injuries.

A 33-year-old man has been arrested and has been released on police bail.

Officers are carrying out enquiries into the assault and are appealing for witnesses.
