North East first cancer support, awareness and education centre in the UK appeal for more volunteers

A North East charity are looking to build the first cancer support, awareness and education centre in the UK through help of volunteers.

The charity have several shops around the North East, including one on Blandford Street, Sunderland, which are always open to taking on new volunteers.

SR News caught up with mum-of-two Joanne Smith, the founder of FACT, who set up the charity after suffering breast cancer, to find out what the centre will be used for.

Fighting All Cancers Together (FACT) are looking to create the new centre not only for people who have been diagnosed with cancer, but also for their family and friends.

FACT will help families who have lost somebody to the disease or are currently going through treatment.

The education side of the centre will be looking at health and wellbeing, prevention of some cancers and early diagnosis of cancer.

The centre will also be offering opportunity for regular volunteering, social opportunities, events and programs, helping people to help themselves along with fair treatment and easy access to services.
