Sunderland star Katie Bulmer-Cooke returns for annual Family Fun Run

Katie Bulmer-Cooke returned for annual Family Fun Run, run by Active Sunderland, at Mowbray Park on Saturday (April 30).

The day saw hundreds of families come together to take part in this yearly community fun activity.

All kinds of free sport taster sessions like friendly dodge ball, hopscotch, bounce-back hurdles, and swing ball were available for everyone to join in and play against their friends.

Councillor Barry Curran, Mayor of Sunderland, said: “The emphasis is very much on having a fun experience, this is a great way for young children and their parents to join in and have a great day out.”

Ex BBC Apprentice candidate Sunderland’s Katie Bulmer-Cooke made an appearance and warmed up the crowd with her daughter, Heidi, before taking their positions for the run.

Ms Bulmer-Cooke smiled as she explained her involvement in the Family Fun Run, saying: “We’ve been doing it for a while now.

“Last year me and my little girl, Heidi warmed it up, so it’s nice to be back again doing it together, part of a family event.”

Since being a contestant on The Apprentice series 10 in 2014, she has ventured in her passion for fitness through GymCube.com as a Master Trainer and Entrepreneur.

The show opened up opportunities for her, but Katie Bulmer-Cookie was happy to return to Sunderland when she was eliminated in week 10 out of 12.

“It was really good to come back to Sunderland after The Apprentice was finished, because it’s like home. I had really good support from everyone in the city,” she said.

Sunderland City Council and See-it-do-it-sunderland supported the free event.

These are a list of runs happening in the North East this year:
