Police are appealing for information after a woman was sexually assaulted on a bus between Gateshead and South Shields.

The incident happened aboard the X34 bus at around 8:40pm on Monday, February 15, where a man touched the victims’ leg inappropriately and tried to kiss her.

The suspect got on the bus at the Gateshead interchange and got off on Galsworthy Road in South Shields at about 8.55pm.

He is described as being white, around 6ft tall, in his early 30s and of slim build. He has short brown hair, a sunken face and stubble. His top front two teeth were crooked and he spoke with a local accent. He was wearing a black raincoat, blue jeans and trainers.

Officers are keen to trace a woman who was travelling on the bus at the time of the incident who spoke to the victim after the assault to check if she was OK and have urged this woman to get in touch to assist with enquiries.

Anybody else who may have been on the bus, recognizes the description of the man or who has any other information is also urged to contact Northumbria police on 101.
