Police are currently dealing with reports of a suspicious package in Durham.
Officers were called just before 9:30am today (March 22) to Old Shire Hall in Old Elvet.
The area is currently cordoned off as a precaution while officers investigate the item.
Road closures are currently in place on Old Elvet and people are advised to avoid this area.
Traffic is still able to travel through Durham via New Elvet.

Bomb disposal experts have carried out two controlled explosions on the item. An inspection of the item will now take place.

The item has been examined and was found to be harmless. The cordon is now being lifted.
