An official club statement has just been released by Newcastle United, stating that head coach Steve McClaren’s “employment with the club will end with immediate effect”.

This is after a defeat from Bournemouth on Monday and before the all important Tyne Wear derby on March 20.

The club state: “I would like to thank Steve personally for his services to Newcastle United. He is a man of integrity and class and he has conducted himself with great dignity during this difficult time.

It is unknown if McClaren has a new job lined up in England or if he will be willing travel to Europe again.

There is no confirmation in who will take over the role from the Head Coach. But the front runners are Rafa Benitez or David Moyes.

It is understood that Benitez was in talks with the club last night.
