Bus-driving Santas collect more than £1,000 for charity

Sunderland bus drivers have raised more than £1,000 for two charities in their annual Christmas fundraising campaign. 

Stagecoach drivers swapped their uniforms for festive costumes to raise funds for St Benedict’s Hospice and Sunderland Cardiac Support Group (SCSG).

As much as £981 was collected thanks to Wearsiders and with a donation from Stagecoach the total of £1,150 has been raised.

“We would like to thank our passengers for supporting us and giving as generously as they did on their travels,” Graham Thompson, bus driver.

St Benedict’s Hospice provides a range of services including a 14 bed in patient unit, out patient clinics and day care services.

Catrina Flynn, fundraising manager for the hospice, said: “We are very grateful to be supported by stagecoach and the divers from their annual Christmas fundraising.”

Across the six Stagecoach depots, staff raised £16,000 for various charities over the festive period, including a donation from each depot from stagecoach North East.
