Northumbria Police have reported that parts of rural Northumberland are already experiencing heavy snow, which could lead to potentially dangerous road conditions.

Drivers travelling on the A696 Otterburn Road should be particularly careful. There is snow on the road but it is “passable with extreme care”.

There are also pockets of heavy snow along the A68 between Redesdale and Carter Bar on the Scottish border.

The A697 is also slippy and police officers will be in the areas affected to assist, if required.

Motorists should drive responsibly and keep their speed down as stretches of both roads will be slippery.
