A note which appeared to be left by the Northumberland County Council, threatening to “humanely destroy” horses (pictured), has actually been put up by a “private landowner” – not by the Northumberland County Council – SR News understands.

A picture of the note emerged on social media, Twitter and Facebook, and SR News contacted the County Council for a comment.

A spokesperson for the Northumberland County Council said: “The signage was put up by a private landowner, not the council.

“The landowner involved has been instructed to remove the signs immediately.”

The horses are reportedly either in Hexham or Embleton area. However, this information is still to be confirmed.
