Southwick Salvation Army community manager, Graham Wharton, praised Sunderland fans after it was announced the club had won the EFL Community Club of the Year award. The award was given as a result of their fundraiser for the EFL Trophy final, where fans raised around £170,000 purchasing virtual tickets.
