A man has been charged with dangerous driving after crashing a car through a takeaway window in Sunderland.
Police have charged a man after the glass front of Barnes Grill and Pizzeria, on the Barnes roundabout, was completely shattered.
Police said: “Officers attended and found a Renault Clio had smashed through the window of Barnes Grill and Pizzeria. However, the occupant of the vehicle had already left the scene.”
Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 7pm on Sunday May 5. However, by this time the driver had fled.
A man was arrested shortly after the crash and police have now charged Anthony Richmond, 32, of no fixed abode, with dangerous driving, driving without insurance, driving without a licence, failing to stop after an accident and failing to report and accident.
Nobody was seriously injured but temporary road closures were put into place while a clean-up operation was carried out.
The man charged is due to appear at Newcastle Crown Court on June 4.
