North East joins together to support World Transplant Games 2019

Team GB and sporting legend Steve Cram were at the Intu Metrocentre on March 25 to raise awareness of the 2019 World Transplant Games, which take place in Newcastle and Gateshead in August 2019.

At the event, athletes talked about why they are supporting the Games, but more importantly why organ donation is important and why people need to have the conversation with their families.

The aim of the event was to encourage the public to talk about organ donation, to sign up to the NHS Organ Donor Register and to share their wishes with friends and family.

Alongside the sporting personalities was local student Cecilia Adamou. Cecilia is an organ donation campaigner, kidney and heart transplant recipient and was awarded the Pride of Britain winner award in 2014.  You can read more about Cecilia’s involvement with the World Transplant Games here.
