Sunderland Restaurant Week returns for sixth time in March 2019

This March over 35 restaurants, cafés and grills within Sunderland will be offering discounted meals and food for one week. The public will be able to dine out for two and three course meals for as little as £5, £10 or £15.

Saturday, March 16 marks the beginning of the annual Restaurant Week in Sunderland.  The participating restaurants and cafes will be promoting discounted prices and special prices off food from their usual menus.  This year marks the sixth year Sunderland has taken part in the event.

Popular chain restaurants, such as Nandos and Revolution, are also taking part and adding special discounts off certain meals during the week.

Adam, manager of Grannie Annie’s, said: ‘This will be the second year we are taking part. Last year, we came 1st out of all of the restaurants in September. I can’t see a reason why we won’t be successful this March.”

With more local and independent eateries joining in this year, there will be more unique and different restaurants and cuisines for people to choose from.

Restaurants who previously took part the last year’s event in September, such as No 2 Church Lane and Port Of Call, which are both located within the city centre, also return to the event due to success last time around.

Stephen Hunt, owner of No 2 Church Lane, said: “We feel like restaurant week is great for the city overall. It showcases all the great restaurants that the city has to offer and we are proud to be part of it. We are offering steak fries, which is one of our most popular dishes, for only £5, plus any starter plus burger and fries for only £10.”

With no extra fees, restaurants and cafes are expecting a rise in customers during the week. Due to popular demand, booking restaurants may be necessary.
