Olivier Award winner set to open a fringe theatre in Whitley Bay

OLIVIER award winning producer Jamie Eastlake is set to open a new fringe theatre in Whitley Bay.

Following on from his success at Laurences Tapas Bar in Blyth which opened in 2020, Mr Eastlake decided to expand his business.

“Expansion was always part of the plan but when my friend Stephen Robertson offered to invest into the company, it was a no brainer what had to be done next,” said Jamie

The investment has allowed both Jamie and Stephen to seek a bigger venue which can allow them to create entertainment.

They plan to program regular theatre productions alongside comedy nights and other acts such as singers and DJ’s.

The new venue will be called Laurels and it will consist of both a bar and restaurant with a third floor lounge area and theatre space.

Stephen Robertson said: “The idea for Laurel’s is to replicate exactly what Jamie has done with Laurences in Blyth but it is on the smaller side so that’s why we looked for a bigger building to do exactly what Laurences does but add a bit more on the entertainment side.”

You can find Laurels at 212 Whitley Road and it is set to open mid June.
