A women’s football coach and two promising young players from Tyne Metropolitan College have recently earned an international call-up.
Defender Grace Ayre and forward Kacie Elson were part of the England College’s side which won the Il Calcio E’Rosa tournament, which hosts teams from across Europe, in Rome in February.
“It is my greatest honour in football, even just the experience of playing with Women’s Super League players has lifted my game,” said Grace.
Carl Chater helped coach England during the tournament. He was appointed head coach of the Tyne Metropolitan College in early 2015, taking the college from Category Two level to winning a Category One league in just two seasons. He said:
“The fact we have taken players from the local areas and from different schools into our women’s football programme – and then they have progressed to international level – is phenomenal. I feel that the programme we have got now is the ideal place for any young women with aspirations of playing at a high level.”
TyneMet will represent the area in a National School’s final on Wednesday, March 27; the match can be viewed from 4pm on the following link.
