Sunderland centre to celebrate International Women’s Day with the community

Hope Street Xchange are helping the Sunderland community celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8 at 8:30am until 1pm.

The centre has celebrated International Women’s Day with the Sunderland community since the building opened in 2013, however, this year they are taking a completely different angle and celebrating charity and empowerment.

The event will focus on the help available for those facing obstacles and struggling across the region. Hope Street Xchange aims to use the event to give people the help they need by putting them in touch with charities such as Smart Works, The Red Box Project and Sunderland Foodbank.

Throughout the day, Hope Street Xchange will be collecting donations, such as clothes for disadvantaged women so they can attend job interviews, sanitary items to fight period poverty in local schools as well as food donations for the local food bank.

Guest speakers, including Lauren Robinson, fashion blogger and founder of the first Beauty Bank in Sunderland, Nigel and Susie from The Red Box Project and Katherine Briggs, Lead Enterprise Consultant from Finchale Group will speak at the event.

The event is free to attend and morning refreshments and a light lunch are being provided by Elior Catering, the event’s sponsor.
