The region’s first ever concrete standing themed firework event is set to take place at Rainton Meadows Arena tomorrow, with hundreds expected to turn up.
Brand new for 2018, Rainton Meadows Arena in Houghton-le-Spring is hosting a huge firework spectacular and bonfire along the theme of musical films such as The Greatest Showman and Mamma Mia.
Along with fireworks and a bonfire, there will be funfair rides, catering and guest appearances from the movies. The film soundtracks will also accompany the fireworks, making for a mesmerising and unique show.
Event organiser, Colin Noble, said:
“The bonfire aspect makes this event different to others, there’s not many firework displays now that still have bonfires.
“We chose this location because of the hard standing floors, so it means it appeals to kids, people in wheelchairs and pushchairs.”
Debbie Hemmingway, who lives nearby, agrees. Debbie said:
“My 12 year old had to miss out on firework displays this year because she has a broken leg, but we saw this one advertised and it’s perfect because we can take her wheelchair without worrying about it getting stuck in mud.”
The event takes place this Saturday November 10 for one night only with the doors opening at 5pm, bonfire starting at 7pm and the main fireworks at 8:15pm.
Tickets can be bought ahead of the day for £4 each and £15 for a family online at: https://boxoffice.cloud/rainton-meadows-firework-spectacular?fbclid=IwAR2SGcACcqrEaYiuLMGx0f1ZGz_BTtVmEbaq1b5YzSVun4ZGlQZOlLJTuN8
