MiniCon Returns to Sunderland, Provides Platform for Local Businesses

Empire Cinemas will host a free MiniCon event featuring local vendors and numerous activities on Saturday.

In celebration of the release of “Avengers: Infinity War” and the upcoming releases of “Solo: A Star Wars Story” and “Deadpool 2,” attendees are encouraged to dress in Cosplay and take part in activities from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Empire Cinema.

A representative of Empire Cinemas added: “The North East Avengers plan to make an appearance, providing a mix of superheroes and possibly some Star Wars too!

“We hope to build upon our successful 2016 event which hosted hundreds of cosplayers and movie fans alike.”

Over 20 different businesses from the North East area will have stalls at the event.

There will be a costume competition for participants to compete for a grand prize that includes cinema tickets and prize bundles. With over 20 different stalls and live entertainment, around 600 guests are expected.

Animez, an Anime store, is one of the vendors confirmed for the event.

A representative of the store said: “Since I am a local business based in Newcastle, I am taking it as an opportunity to promote the shop as it’s hidden away in a back lane in Newcastle.

“I hope that the people that attend will have a great time at the event.”

Another vendor, Blue EyedDevils Comic Shop from Jarrow, shared these sentiments: “With being a small, still relatively new business, our biggest hope going into any event is our name becoming more widely known and being recognised, both of these are massive to us.

“We go into each event regardless of size hoping to come away with satisfied and new customers who would rather come to see us opposed to the bigger known chains.”

Tickets are free and still available on the Minicon Facebook event page via Facebook.com/EmpireCinemasSunderland.
