Partial closure on major Sunderland road

On 3 May, the A1231 Wessington Way road will be closed due to Balfour Beatty, an international infrastructure group, placing new speed limit signs.

The new speed limit signs are due to be put in place because of the new Northern Spire bridge that has been in construction since last year.

It was originally proposed that the A1231 Wessington Way should have a reduced 50mph speed limit in September 2017.

A1231 Wessington Way will be closed between 9:00am and 3:30pm from Castletown Way to Northern Way within the Southwick Area.

Drivers who use the road frequently are being told to be prepared for the partial closure of this important road.
