Lou Lou’s Vintage Fair – The Success Story

Lou Lou’s Vintage Fair will celebrate its 10th anniversary next year, after years of making their way up from the bottom.

The Vintage Fair was initially planned as a one-off event for lovers of all things nostalgic, to enjoy a day of vintage shopping from independent traders.

Now, as the small business has grown thanks to the likes of social media and regular goers, the vintage fair can visit up to four cities in one weekend. It has also been awarded ‘Best Vintage Fair’ for three years running at the National Awards.

Social media has played a huge part in the uprising of the business. After speaking with Press and Marketing Manager of Lou Lou’s Vintage Fair, Emily Taysom, she said this about the developments of Facebook, Twitter and Instagram:

“Being able to reach so many people through social media has been invaluable to small businesses like our own. Perhaps most importantly, having social media has allowed us to create a community where people can openly share their Lou Lou’s experiences and purchases ,which we love seeing, and create content that encourages discussion and sharing of fond memories and nostalgia.”

The fair recently visited Newcastle at the Civic Centre for a special Christmas fair. With many stalls offering different vintage experiences.

Due to the success of the fair, Lou Lou even has volunteers who offer up their photography skills to capture exciting moments throughout the day. Angela, a volunteer on December 9 said: “I come every year, I may as well be taking photos.”

One of the most popular areas of the market was the pop-up hair salon. Owned by Amber, the salon is a business which specialises in vintage hair styles. When Amber was asked if she’d be returning for the 10th anniversary she said:

“If they ask me, definitely. I’ll come just for the cake!”

Lou Lou’s have worked for 10 years to achieve the three awards and social media success. So whether people are going for vintage one-off buys, or just the cake; they’re doing something right.
