Danny’s #GreatNorthStory: “I’m running for a charity that helps children with cerebral palsy and other physical ailments”

In six days thousands of people will arrive in Newcastle to run the Great North Run’s 13.1 mile course. Danny Venton is one of those individuals who will be pounding the pavements of Newcastle and South Shields.

The 22-year-old will be tackling his first half marathon on Sunday, September 10.

First run: Danny Venton, 22, from Chester-Le-Street is running his first Great North Run on September 10/photo by Danny Venton.

Mr Venton is training to be an assistant manager at AMF Bowling in Washington and has chosen his workplace’s partner charity Heel and Toe.

The charity supports children with cerebral palsy and other physical conditions.

Mr Venton, from Chester-Le-Street, said: “[The charity] were offering a place for someone from our centre to run for them so I took them up on it.

“[The charity] is completely funded by donations and fundraising so I think it’s a really good charity to run for.”

He added: “Training is going well, I’m comfortably doing about eleven miles when I go for a distance run so I’m excited to see what will happen on the day!

“Where I live and train is very hilly so I’m looking forward to a slightly flatter course.”

Despite running solo on the day of the event, Mr Venton will be joined by friends and family to spur him along the tough course.

“In the past when I’ve done an event run, the crowd and the whole atmosphere gives you a lift. If I’m ever struggling it’s also important to remember why I’m training and raising this money and how important it is to the charity and the children involved.”
