Nine top tips for North East students on A-level results day

It’s A-Level results day – the day you’ve all been waiting to arrive for months. 

Before you go and pick up your results read these nine top tips to help you on your results day.

1. Don’t go it alone.

Take people with you to collect your results. You may wish to go with friends or a family member. Going with someone else will help you with the next tip!

2. Stay calm.

It’s easier said than done, but remember you did your best whatever grades are in that envelope. You need to remain focused before and after your results as you need to decide what to do next.

3. Have a sense of perspective.

When you pick up your results things may change. You may have done well, which is great. You may have better than you expected – well done. Or you might have got lower grades than you wanted. In all cases you need to keep a sense of perspective and remember to remain calm. Things may have gone to plan or not, but there’s ways to change your life course. It’s your choice.

4. Open the envelope away from people if you wish.

The results you get are yours. You might want to take a moment to catch your breath and open your results away from your friends and teachers. It’s okay to want to keep them to yourself for a little in order to digest what’s on the paper. You decide if you want to tell people afterwards. There’s no pressure to share!

5. It’s not the end of the world.

If your grades are not what you’re expecting. It’s not the end of the world. It’s important to take a break from social media if thing’s don’t go your way.

6. If you get the grades you want – celebrate but support others who might not have.

Results day is a wave of positive and negative emotions. It’s a rollercoaster for many! If you’ve got the results you wanted, that’s great, but not everyone will have. It’s important to be there for any friends who might have missed out on getting the grades they needed to take their next step. Remember to reassure them that there are other options out there!

7. View any decisions as positive steps.

Positivity is key when it comes to results day, even when you think you may have experienced a setback. Any decisions you make are positive steps because they’ll take you where you want to go. It may take you a bit longer, but everyone is different! Remember you’re going at your pace.

8. Speak to your teachers about your next steps if you’re unsure on what to do.

Your teachers are there to support you and help you decide on what to do. They’ll have information on different options when you’re faced with certain circumstances. If you don’t have a plan, they can talk you through what to do so there’s no need to worry or panic!
