A1 reopened after multi-vehicle collision

The A1 northbound has been fully re-opened following a multi-vehicle collision near to the exit for the Team Valley this afternoon (Friday, July 29).

Delays are still expected in the area as there is heavy congestion but it should start moving again soon.

At around 12.35pm, police received a report of the collision where a number of vehicles were involved.

The whole of the northbound carriageway was shut to allow emergency services to attend.

There has now been a second collision on the southbound carriageway near to the Angel of the North involving half a dozen vehicles.

Motorists are being advised to avoid the area and find an alternative route if possible as road is blocked and there will be delays in the area.

Northumbria Police have also advised those stuck in traffic should remain patient.

There have been no reports of any serious injuries in both collisions.
