Sunderland’s Da Vinci exhibition enters its final week

A popular exhibition showcasing the drawings of renowned renaissance artist, Leonardo Da Vinci, will close on Monday, May 6, 2019.

23,000 VISITORS AND COUNTING – Visitors enjoy the Leonardo Da Vinci: A Life in Drawing exhibition at Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens.

The exhibition, entitled Leonardo Da Vinci: A Life In Drawing, contains 14 of the artist’s sketches and commemorates the 500th anniversary of his death.

It began its run at Sunderland Museum and Winter gardens on February 1, 2019 and, to date, has welcomed more than 23,000 visitors, making it one of the museum’s biggest ever attractions.

Jo Cunningham, exhibitions, collections and archive manager at Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens, said:

“Leonardo: A Life in Drawing has been a special exhibition, one that has captured the imagination of the public and we’re delighted so many people have been to see these beautiful and historic drawings.

“We’ve had a superb selection of drawings from the Royal Collection Trust, displaying the range of Leonardo’s brilliant work and the feedback we’ve had has been amazing.

“We’re expecting our last few days to be very busy, so we’d advise visitors to book as soon as possible through our website.”

Tickets for the exhibition cost £2.50 and can be pre-booked online or at the museum reception during opening hours. Entry for under-16s is free, but they will still require a ticket.

The display, which is one of 12 separate collections currently showing in the country, will move to Buckingham Palace as part of a larger exhibition at the Queen’s Gallery after it closes in Sunderland.
