Shortlist announced for North East business awards

Nominees have been revealed for the annual North East Business awards.

The awards, held in association with the North East England Chamber of Commerce, will see companies across the region receive awards celebrating different aspects of their companies, including apprenticeship programs, growth and interaction with their local community. The companies operate within a wide range of industries, from engineering to healthcare, but are all based in the North East.

Marc House, head of NTW Academy, which operates the apprenticeship programmes of Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (NTW), one of the organisations currently nominated for an apprenticeship award, said:

“We are hugely proud of our apprenticeship programmes and we’re thrilled to have achieved the recognition of the North East England Chamber of Commerce by being shortlisted for a North East Business Award.

“We were one of the first NHS Trusts in the region to develop an apprenticeship programme, which has recruited over 400 apprenticeships since it began in 2009, with over 350 of these now employed in NTW.”

Dan Martin, CEO of Elmtronics, who supply and install electric car charging points, said: “We are delighted to have been shortlisted for this award, we are so proud to have been recognised by the sponsors of this category as it reflects the work that we do within the region and across the UK in promoting the electric car and charging infrastructures.”

John Ryder, CEO and founder of Hive, who have been shortlisted for a small business award, said: “By far the most valuable part of any recognition and achievement is what it can do for team spirit.

“I think the single biggest influencing factor in our success has been understanding our customer’s challenges, headaches and then being nimble enough to adapt our proposition to get the product/market fit just right.”

With three companies currently nominated for each award, a series of award dinners will be held across February and March to celebrate those who have been shortlisted. The winners of the awards will be announced at The Grand Final in Sedgefield, County Durham, on 16 May.
