Spectacular Science Show heading for South Shields

By Daisy Aitchison

The hugely popular Spectacular Science Show, presented by Mark Thompson, is heading to The Customs House in South Shields later this month.

Mark is well known for his work as the presenter of the Royal Television Society Award-nominated show, BBC Stargazing Live. He’s now touring the country with the Spectacular Science Show, which aims to engage all the family in the world of science. The performance has already attracted sell-out crowds across the nation.

Mark said: “I’m very excited to be bringing my show to The Customs House on Sunday. Getting kids excited about science is very important to me.”

His passion for space began when he was 10 and has helped lead to his career as a presenter. As well as working on Stargazing Live, Mark has also been seen on The One Show, This Morning, Good Morning Britain and The Alan Titchmarsh Show.

The Spectacular Science Show debuted to a packed audience at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2016. Since then the performance has attracted sell-out crowds across the country. The show uses howling jelly babies, exploding elephant’s toothpaste and vortex-generating dustbins to explore the properties of matter.

There are plenty of other performances to enjoy over half-term, including Arbuthnot and Pals’ Detective Agency, a show for under-10s, which will also be running at The Customs House from Tuesday, February 19 to Friday, February 22. The performance includes pantomime stars Arbuthnot, Puddles and Cutlet and will be shown at 11am and 2pm each day. Tickets are priced from £8.

Mini Makers, inspired by Beauty and the Beast, allows children to create a monstrous beast and an enchanted rose. The session will run from 11am to 1.30pm on Monday, February 18 for under 11s and their grown-ups, and costs £2 per child. In the cinema, The Lego Movie 2 is playing.

The Spectacular Science Show will be at The Customs House on Sunday February 17, with both an 11am and 2pm performance. Tickets start at £8 and are available on (0191) 454 1234 or at www.customshouse.co.uk.
