Sunderland artist to showcase six month project in pop-up gallery

A Sunderland artist is to showcase a six-month-long project in Mackie’s Corner pop-up art gallery.

Jo Howell, an artist specialising in Art and Photography, will be showcasing the work of the WearExperimenting exhibition, a month-long interactive and evolving experience of science, photography and participation art.

Commissioned for the Cultural Spring and the North East Photography Network (NEPN), the exhibition showcases work by the public via different photography techniques.

Over the past six months, Jo has taken a travelling darkroom around Sunderland to help explore the link between science and photography, engaging with the public to help build an archive of unique images of the city.

Jo, a Sunderland University graduate, said:

“Sunderland is my hometown and a perfect example of a city that is misunderstood.

“But this beautiful city is populated with a wealth of creative and motivated people who’ve helped create this wonderful archive”.

The WearExperimenting exhibition is running from November until December 1 on Thursdays through to Saturdays. To help contribute to the archive, use the hashtag #WearExperimenting.

The Month-long exhibition will also feature a packed schedule of free photography workshops for all ages and the timetable can be viewed here.

Spaces must be booked and to do so, contact the Cultural Spring by email: booking@theculturalspring.org.uk or call 0191 427 8197.
