Labour gain seats in North Tyneside election

Labour have gained two seats in North Tyneside  in the 2018 local elections.

The party took both Cullercoats and Monkseaton North from the Conservatives: Joe Kirwin defeated incumbent Les Miller by just 28 votes in Monkseaton North, while Willie Samuel defeated Ken Barrie in Cullercoats. They also gained Northumberland from the Liberal Democrats, with Trish Brady was successful by 24 votes.

However, the Conservatives did manage to take Monkseaton South, with Sean Brockbank defeating incumbent Ian Grayson, cabinet member for Children, Young People and Learning.
