Storm Doris battered the region today with strong winds and heavy rain causing chaos to travellers going from and coming to the North East.
Here is a rundown of what issues the storm caused in the North East today:
Flights across the UK have been affected due to bad weather but Newcastle airport has been operating as normal.
A spokesperson said: ” The airport is running as normal and we have had no impact here.”
Air travel wasn’t the only type of travel affected, trains departing from Newcastle central station had been delayed and even cancelled as the winds were expected to reach 87mph.
24-year-old commuter Karim was meant to be travelling home to London but his train was cancelled. Here’s what he had to say:
One Tyne and Wear metro was cancelled at East Boldon and several others were delayed throughout the day.
The Met Office issued an amber warning for snow, they said: “Heavy snow is expected on Thursday. Local accumulations at low levels of around 3 cm are possible, but accumulations of 10 to 20 cm above around 100 metres are likely, with 20 to 30 cm falling on hills above 300 metres.”
The police warned the public to be wary of bogus callers using Doris “as an excuse to strike.” They issued the following statement:
“Bogus builders may use the expected bad weather and storm ‘Doris’ as an opportunity to try and scam people out of money. If anyone gets any callers at their door offering building work then do not let them into your home.
“Do not hand over any money and never assume a cold-caller is telling the truth.”
Sunderland Fire and Rescue service reported they had sent two fire engines to remove hoarding from Revolution bar on high street west as it was in a dangerous position.

But Storm Doris isn’t the only storm to have hit the North East in recent years:
Anybody effected by the cancelled flights can look on Airfair to see if they are entitled to compensation. People effected by train cancellations should check with their rail company to see about refunds.
The Met office’s forecast suggests that North East has seen the worst of Storm Doris but people still need to stay vigilant.
