Hundreds of pre cast concrete blocks have started to arrive in Sunderland, which will help form the bridge deck of Sunderland’s New Wear Crossing.

The deck will use up around 670 of the panels and around 185 of them will be used as parapet units to help retain the walls.

Alan Gill who is a Civil Engineer who works for Farrans Construction said: “We are moving into a really exciting phase of the bridge-building programme now as work is progressing in the river on the main pylon foundations, and the panels for the bridge deck are being delivered every day.”
