Police are enquiring for witnesses after a cyclist, aged 21, suffered injuries in a collision in South Shields.
The incident happened at 11.19pm last night on the John Reid Road at the junction with Chesterton Road in South Shields.
From what Northumbria Police know so far, the cyclist collided with a Ford Focus shortly after he was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary where he is in critical condition.
The driver of the car was not injured.
Officers are carrying out enquiries about the incident and anyone with useful information should contact Northumbria Police on 101.
