A man has been reported for dangerous driving following a collision with a police car in Gateshead.

At just after 9pm on Sunday, March 13, motor patrols officers attended a report of drivers gathering and driving dangerously in the area near to McDonalds on the Team Valley trading estate.

While at the scene, one vehicle collided with a police car causing damage.

No one was injured during the incident.

The driver of the vehicle has been reported for dangerous driving and other driving offences.

His car was seized from him and enquiries into the incident are ongoing.

Chief Inspector John Heckels, who oversees the force’s road safety Operation Dragoon, said: “We will not tolerate groups of drivers gathering in our force area and driving dangerously.

“They are putting themselves, other road users and members of the public at risk and anyone found doing this will be dealt with swiftly and seriously.

“We know it is a minority within the modified car scene that behave this way and we will work with these groups to identify them and get them off our roads.”
