On Tuesday evening, March 1, police arrested a 50-year-old man on suspicion of having explosives in suspicious circumstances.
The arrest was part of a pro-active intelligence led operation and the man remains in custody helping police with their enquiries.
As part of these enquiries police officers and Explosive Ordnanse Disposal (EOD) staff are carrying out a safe search of an address in Beltingham, West Denton. This search is ongoing.
After advice from the EOD there has not been any need to set up any cordons or move people from the area, however if this changes we have plans in place.
We will update the public with further information as soon as possible and there are officers in the area to reassure local residents.
