A recent report has found that digital industries in Sunderland are on rise by 29 per cent for the 2010 to 2014.
The report from the Government initiative Tech Nation from Tech City UK has revealed that this growth means more jobs for the city, with employment growing by 17 per cent from 2011 to 2014.
Keith Whalen, senior developer at geek Talent, said: “The good thing about IT is people can work anywhere in the world, so why not work in Sunderland?
“We’ve got plenty of companies here [in the Software Centre] who are doing websites. We’ve got people writing games; we’ve got people, like ourselves, working on software that the government are going to be using, so I think Sunderland is a great place.”
The report also highlights that telecommunications, networking, gaming, software and app development are Sunderland’s sector specialisms.
Tech Nation is a broad analysis of the UK’s Tech economy, which shows how digital industries are driving economic growth, employment and regional development, which includes Sunderland.
