Police searching for missing Ponteland woman Sally Allan have found a woman’s body in the River Tyne.

At 1:07pm yesterday (Wednesday, February 3), a body of a woman was found in water near the riverside in Jarrow.

The body has been recovered from the water and enquiries are being carried out to identify the woman.

A Northumbria Police Statement said:

“Although we can not confirm that the body is that of Sally Allan, her family have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this time.”

69-year-old Sally Allan went missing on Boxing Day when she left her home address sometime before 3am.

CCTV footage later confirmed her last sighting in Newcastle.

Officers released the images that show Sally walking along side the River Tyne at the rear of the Copthorne Hotel on Newcastle Quayside at around 6am on Boxing Day morning.

The footage shows her walking from west to east and the camera loses sight of her as she approaches the Swing Bridge.

A formal identification of the body is due to take place.
