From Super Bowl to Sunderland: Wearside reacts to Beyoncé gig at Stadium Of Light

Global superstar Beyoncé announced her world tour, confirming that the first European show of the Formation World Tour will be on Wearside.

The Halo singer will be performing on June 26 in front of what is expected to be a sold-out crowd an the Stadium of Light.

The 34-year-old performed alongside Bruno Mars, Mark Ronson and Coldplay in a star-studded performance at the Super Bowl half-time show this year.

Leader of Sunderland City Council Councillor Paul Watson said: “Beyonce is one of the world’s leading artists, and we’re thrilled she’s kicking off the European leg of her world tour in Sunderland.

“It shows what an important international music venue the Stadium of Light has become, and it further cements our reputation as a city capable of hosting some of the biggest and best events in Europe.

“In 2016, we look forward to welcoming even more music fans to Sunderland, and the economic boost to the city from events like this can’t be underestimated.”
